YAKIMA, Washington -- Yakima Speedway officials have announced
that the Northwest?s greatest late model driving star, Garrett
Evans and rising star Jeff Jefferson will be part of the March 9
festivities at the Yakima Sun Kings display during the
professional basketball teams regular season finale.
Evans is the defending Yakima Speedway Fall Classic winner and
holds many career records on the NASCAR Raybestos Brakes
Northwest Series. A crowd favorite at any racing facility in the
region, Speedway officials were elated when Evans agreed to join
the Sun Kings event.
?For Garrett to take the time to bring his stock car down from
Ardenvoir, Wash. and display it for Sun Kings fans is a
tremendous gesture on his part, we?re very excited to have him
in the display,? said Doug Pace, Yakima Speedway Media
Coordinator.
With the 38th Annual Apple Cup set to kick-off the racing season
at Yakima Speedway, Pace said that Jefferson?s presence is also
great for fans attending the Sun Kings event. ?Jeff is the
defending Apple Cup champion and was once sponsored by the Sun
Kings. He attempted to qualify for a NASCAR Winston Cup Series
event last season and it?s only a matter of time before he makes
it to the next level.
?Again, we are very happy that a local NASCAR Touring division
star will be taking the time to join our prestigious group of
local drivers for the SunDome event.?
Evans and Jefferson will appear along side Travis Bennett, Ken
Olson, Mel Shenyer and Jeff Sisk at the display. An autograph
session will be held during the pre-game and post-game
festivities and five race cars will be on display during the
event.
All of the activity is in preparation for the 38th Annual Apple
Cup, scheduled for April 11-13. The race is the traditional
kick-off event for fans in Central Washington and it attracts
some of the best racing talent in the region. For more
