FIVE FINISH AT MILLER 200

The 11th Annual Super Stock Miller 200 was run Saturday night at South Sound Speedway in Rochester, WA. The temperature was hot and the racing was intense as 22 of the best drivers from the Northwest competed for the ultimate prize. Wes Rhodes clocked in fastest. Mike Obrist started on the pole position with Ron Dexter on the outside. There was one bad start and one pile-up before the green flag flew. Ray Wallace, Jared Vorse and Shane Sawin all left the track before the green. Sawin came back to start the race but only made two of the 200 laps. Wallace came back on with four laps down and Vorse was back after 40 laps. Obrist took the lead on lap one with Dan Rhodes in second, Tom Sweatman in third, Ron Dexter in fourth and Kelly Mann in fifth. Lap 26 brought out the first caution when Dan Obrist went out in a parade of sparks coming from his tire. Another caution came on lap 38 when Tom Sweatman blew a motor. Clean up was done for some fluid and racing went back to green. Mike Obrist was still out front with Dan Rhodes in second, Kelly Mann in third, Wes Rhodes in fourth and Jeff Jefferson in fifth. Lap 73 brought out the third caution when Brad Stanwood spun but did not lose a lap. At lap 100 a break was taken for small repairs, gas and up to two tires if needed.

Into the race 120 laps the top five remained the same as Mike Obrist, Dan Rhodes, Kelly Mann, Wes Rhodes and Jeff Jefferson battled out front. There was a caution on lap 123 when Ray Wallace spun and went off. The next caution came on lap 147 when Rod Schultz Jr. went into the middle and was done for the night. Ron Dexter was running sixth when he was given a mechanical flag on lap 157 for a fluid leak. On lap 163 while running ninth, Ron Wolf pulled off the track with a problem. The final caution of the race came on lap 186 when Dan Woodward spun. Mike Obrist won the Miller 200 after leading from start to finish. Kelly Mann finished second with Dan Rhodes in third, Wes Rhodes in fourth and Jeff Jefferson in fifth. Brad Stanwood, Rod Schultz, Mitch Franklin, Bob Presley and Dan Woodward were the remaining top ten.

JJ Hamilton clocked in with a 15.174 to be the fastest qualifier for the Top Notch Trailers Street Stocks. Kevin Boretsky led the first lap of the heat race before Sean Riley took over the lead. On lap two Rick Courtright and George Granberg got together into the front stretch wall. Both were done for the night. On lap six another accident happened when Tony Bartlotti and Kyle Markstrom got together. Sean Riley won by a nose at the line with JJ Hamilton in second and Bobby Micielli in third. Cody Erskine started on the pole position of the main event and took the early lead. Jim Swanson moved into second with Bobby Micielli into third. On lap nine Micielli took over second and JJ Hamilton took over third. Micielli took the lead on lap 12 with Hamilton taking second. On lap 27 a caution was thrown when Micielli broke, spilling fluid all over the track. Hamilton now had the lead and took the win, his second of the season. Jim Swanson finished up second and Cody Erskine was third. Kyle Markstrom finished up fourth with Sean Riley in fifth.

Josh Haynie led all eight laps of the first heat race in the Bumblebees to win over Kyle Matthews and Ben Callies. Tom Roper led the first six laps before being overtaken by Brad Newbury. Newbury took the win with John Davis in second and Roper in third. Ben Callies led all 15 laps of the first main event for the win over Ron Anctil and Kyle Matthews. Steven Singer was fourth with Tracy Smith in fifth. Cynthia Jussila, Gary Mitchell and Josh Bryant were the rest of the top eight. Billy Buchanan was disqualified for spinning Gary Mitchell out and Zach Floreck was unable to finish. Tom Roper took the lead of the second main event, from the pole, on lap one. Josh Haynie took over on lap five and held on to win the race. Brad Newbury was second and John Davis was third. Brice Bates Jr. was fourth, Joel Tveter was fifth, Tom Roper was sixth and Kelly Erickson was seventh. Eric Franson, Devin Matthews and Criss Hahn were all disqualified.

Tanner McCombs continued his undefeated streak in the Mini Cup Open Division. McCombs clocked in fastest, won the heat and the main event. Behind McCombs in the heat race was Dan Larson Sr. and Zach Blockhan. The main event ran cautionless with Dan Larson Sr. out front for the first eight laps before McCombs took over. McCombs won with Larson Sr. in second, Zach Blockhan in third, Dan Larson Jr. in fourth, Dave Torrey in fifth and Bruce McCombs in sixth.

Kayla Roberts was the fast qualifier for the Mini Cup Future Stars. Aaron Stanley won the heat race with Kayla Roberts in second and Matt Benefield in third. Matt Benefield led the first five laps of the main event before Aaron Stanley took over. Stanley won the caution free main event with Kayla Roberts in second and Benefield in third. Brayden McCombs was fourth, Jacob VanGesen was fifth, Derrik Carlson was sixth and Dustin Torrey was seventh.

Coming up this Saturday night, July 29th, will feature the Limited Late Models, NW Midgets, Vintage Modifieds, Bumblebees and NW Baby Grands. Qualifying will begin at 5:00 with racing at 6:30 pm.
